Under the general supervision of the Personnel Supervisor II, the Personnel Supervisor I supervises, trains,  provides technical assistance, evaluates, and directs the performance of Personnel Specialists in the  preparation, processing, and submission of documents related to a variety of personnel transactions, including  payroll and benefits.

We offer a hybrid work schedule that is consistent with the department’s telework policy.

The Personnel Supervisor I works 40 hours per week, generally in an office setting with elevator  access and a cubicle with natural and artificial lighting. The incumbent in this position has frequent   contact with DIR staff, representatives from other State agencies, and the public in person, by  telephone, and/or email. Much of this contact is of a sensitive and confidential nature. Extensive use of  a computer is required. Being in a stationary position for long periods of time.

This office will be relocating in December 2025, to the renovated New Labor Agency Building in  Downtown Sacramento, at 1416 9th Street.

The incumbent should possess the ability to: Reason logically and creatively and utilize a variety of techniques  to resolve complex issues impacting personnel transactions; develop and evaluate alternatives; evalutate data  and present ideas and information effectively, both orally and in writing; consult with and advise managers or  other interested parties on a wide variety of subject-matter areas.

The incumbent should possess the following skills: Outstanding customer service skills, interpersonal and  organizational skills, good writing skills, and conflict management skills.

The incumbent should possess knowledge of the following: Proper usage and application of grammar and  spelling; the ability to apply office policies and procedures; and working knowledge of commonly used office  automation/computer programs.
